Trump Featured on New $1 Commemorative Coin, Treasury Reveals

Must read

The United States Mint has commenced the production of a new commemorative $1 coin featuring former President Donald Trump, as part of the celebrations for the nation’s 250th anniversary. This announcement from the US Treasury Department highlights a significant step in the ongoing preparations for the milestone event, with the coin set to be released in the fall.

According to Treasury officials, the design of the coin, which was approved earlier this year, has undergone slight modifications from its original concept, most notably featuring a gold-colored finish instead of being made from solid gold. This change was implemented as the coin enters production, aligning with the broader commemorative plans for the United States’ semiquincentennial.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent expressed that the new coin serves as a tribute to the nation’s enduring legacy of liberty and patriotism. He emphasized its role in celebrating the core values and commitment to freedom that define America. The coin’s design prominently showcases a portrait of Trump on the front, accompanied by the word “LIBERTY,” the dates “1776–2026,” and the phrase “IN GOD WE TRUST.” On the reverse side, the traditional bald eagle from the Great Seal of the United States is featured, along with the national motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”

The decision to include Trump on the coin has sparked controversy due to federal laws that generally prohibit living presidents from being depicted on US currency. Despite this, Treasury officials assert that the secretary possesses the authority to approve commemorative coin issues under specific circumstances, a stance that has been utilized to advance this particular project.
