Trump criticized the ceasefire that has been in place since April 7, comparing it to a desperate medical scenario with minimal chances of survival, after receiving what he called a “piece of garbage” from Iran. Last week, the U.S. had sent Iran conditions aimed at resolving the conflict, primarily focused on curbing Tehran’s nuclear ambitions. However, Iran’s weekend counter-proposals were swiftly rejected by Trump, who derided their content.
Project Freedom, a U.S. plan to escort oil tankers through Hormuz, was shelved shortly after its introduction, as a gesture to allow time for Iran to respond to U.S. proposals. This initiative, however, faced opposition from Saudi Arabia, which was unwilling to permit the use of its airspace or bases for what it viewed as an escalatory move.
Trump’s latest remarks coincided with a spike in oil prices, prompted by Iran’s declaration that talks to resolve the Strait of Hormuz blockade would not proceed unless their terms were accepted. Maj. Gen.
